International Nurses

What you need to do

If you are planning to travel to and work in Australia, you must first contact the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection. International nurses should visit their website to establish whether they are eligible to work in Australia.

Before you can start nursing overseas in Australia, you must first register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). AHPRA will determine if your nursing qualification is recognised in Australia.

You can contact AHPRA here or through its mailing address or office:

Mailing address:
G.P.O. Box 9958
VIC 3001

Office location:
Level 8
111 Bourke Street
VIC 3000

You can find all you need to know about how to qualify and register in Australia through AHPRA’s website and through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
